When you’ve got Irving Berlin and David Winters in your family tree, co-producing with Jean-Claude Van Damme doesn’t exactly feel far-fetched. But it was unforgettable.
Our team has managed celebrity wealth and co-produced cultural touchstones like Viva Las Vegas and West Side Story. But teaming up with JCVD was something else. Known to the world as “The Muscles from Brussels,” Jean-Claude had begun reinventing himself as a comedy icon long after kicking ass on screen became second nature.
Inside the Gym, Inside the Script
JCVD doesn’t just show up to set—he shows up everywhere, all in. When we worked with him in Thailand, Bangkok, and Los Angeles, he wasn’t just an actor—he was a creative powerhouse, and a family guy.
We saw it up close. His wife Gladys, herself a would-be action star, made enormous sacrifices so Jean-Claude could focus entirely on his career. Their bond? Solid. His schedule? Brutal—4 to 5 hours of workouts every single day. And after that? He still out-partied everyone on the crew.
The Screenplay That Wrote Itself
When Van Damme told us he wasn’t confident about writing his screenplay, we didn’t panic—we adapted. Instead of pushing him to sit at a laptop, we put a camera crew on him 24/7, documenting every detail as he talked through plot twists, character arcs, cinematography, and punchlines.
Hours of footage later, we had everything we needed to build a screenplay directly from his imagination. What started as conversations in a gym or during late-night shoots turned into a living, breathing story, complete with dialogue and cinematic vision.
That script became a real film.
What JCVD Taught Us About Creativity
Creativity isn’t always tidy. Sometimes it’s sweaty. Sometimes it’s chaotic. Sometimes it needs to be followed around with a camera while it flexes in a mirror.
JCVD reminded us that even legends feel uncertain. But with the right team, the right infrastructure, and a little improvisation—you get magic. That’s the model we’re scaling across our studio system: raw talent meets flexible production.
